Morgan State Hosts 7th Annual African Film Festival

Presents Opportunity to View African Cinema by Top African Directors

The Morgan State University Departments of African Studies and Geography and History present the seventh annual African Film Festival on February 12-14, 2008 in room 101 of the University’s New Communications Center.

“This festival is not only contemporary, but empowering,” says Dr. M’bare N’Gom, Director of the African Studies Program. “It serves to educate as well as entertain students of all disciplines and the community about present-day issues in Africa.”

Since the establishment of Morgan’s African Studies Program in 2001, the film festival has served as a way to expose the surrounding community to African films throughout the Diaspora, and dispel common stereotypes and myths of Africa.

“People must understand that Africa is not a country, but a continent with a diverse set of issues that are not just unique to Africans but universal issues throughout the world,” said Gustave Muhoza an international student from Rwanda.

Viewings on February 12th and 13th begin at 5:00 pm and on February 14th at 11:00 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Ms. Eboni Roberson at 443.885.2091, Ms. Alicia Cisse at 443.885.3094, or email aspmsu@jewel.morgan.edu.
