Morgan Receives Grant from Institute of Museum and Library ServicesThe Morgan State University Center of Museum Studies and Historical Preservation is a recipient of the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ (IMLS) prestigious Museum Grant for African American History and Culture award. Selected from a pool of 41 institutions, the University will receive more than $115,000 to fund internships for Morgan State students and training for staff of museums throughout Maryland and surrounding regions. The two-year grant will also fund workshops on running African American museums, training for potential museum trustees, preservation workshops and much more. Internships will also be available to undergraduate and graduate students in Morgan’s Museum Studies program in partnership with local museums including the Reginald A. Lewis Museum, Banneker-Douglass Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland Historical Society, and the Walters Art Museum. “We are very excited about the grant and grateful to the IMLS. In the past, it was difficult for historically black institutions to receive grants of this nature. The IMLS has given us the opportunity not only to enhance our program, but to also train and educate others,” said Gabriel Tenabe, Director of the MSU Center for Museum Studies and Historical Preservation and Curator of the James E. Lewis Museum of Art. The James E. Lewis Museum of Art is located on the campus of Morgan State University in the Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center at 2201 Argonne Drive. Admission to the museum is free of charge, and hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
