Morgan Choir Featured in Ghana's Celebration of IndependenceThe Morgan State University Choir, under the direction of Dr. Eric Conway, will tour Ghana from August 4, 2007 to August 12, 2007 as part of the West African nation’s Celebration of 50 Years of Independence. The MSU Choir is traveling at the invitation of U.S. Ambassador and Morgan State Alumnus Pamela E. Bridgewater. The celebration will feature the Morgan Choir in a Golden Jubilee concert at the National Theater in Accra. “We are excited about this opportunity to share with Ambassador Bridgewater and the people of Ghana. It’s an honor to be a part of this celebration of their history,” said Dr. Conway. Ambassador Bridgewater says she is looking forward to Choir’s visit to Ghana. “After I left the University, I took every opportunity to attend their concerts in Baltimore and the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, each time reveling in their musical magic.” The Golden Jubilee concert will also feature performances by the nationally acclaimed Tema Youth Choir, directed by Mr. Ebenezer A. Allotey and collaborative performances by both choirs. Among the guests of honor will be U.S. Army General William E. “Kip” Ward, a Morgan alumnus and the highest-ranking African American in the U.S. military. General Ward was recently nominated by President Bush to lead the newly formed U.S. Africa Command. In addition to the concert in Accra, the Morgan Choir will perform in the city of Takoradi, at the St. Peter’s Catholic Basilica in the city of Bonwire, and at the Cape Coast Castle.
