Morgan State University Faculty Member Receives Fulbright Scholar Award

Dr. Ali F. Emdad, Associate Professor of Information Science and Systems at Morgan State University has received a Fulbright Scholar award to lecture and compile research at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates during the 2006-2007 academic year.

Dr. Emdad will spend the spring 2007 semester lecturing and conducting research on cross-cultural distributed IT project management, with an emphasis on trust and team building processes.

“It is an honor to have been selected for this prestigious award,” says Dr. Emdad, who began teaching at Morgan in 1990. “My research, which involves how different cultures process information within a team environment, is a vital aspect of defining success factors for projects.”

Dr. Emdad is chairperson of the Information and Science Systems department at Morgan, and is one of approximately 800 U.S faculty and professionals who will travel abroad to more than 150 countries for the academic year through the Fulbright Scholar Program. Fulbright grant recipients are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, and exemplary leadership potential in their respective fields.

Established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the program’s purpose is to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. Morgan is a national leader in the production of Fulbright Scholar award recipients.

Morgan State University, founded in 1867, is a coeducational institution offering more than 60 academic programs leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as programs at the master’s and doctoral levels.
