Conway Appointed Director of MSU Choir and Chair of Department of Fine Arts

Morgan President Earl S. Richardson today announced the appointment of Dr. Eric Conway as director of the world-renowned Morgan State University Choir and chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Morgan.

“The Morgan family is proud of the rich tradition of its choir, and of what Dr. Conway has been able to accomplish in the short period of time as its interim leader,” said Dr. Richardson. “There is no doubt that he is the next generation of leadership for these talented young voices and for the University’s highly regarded Department of Fine Arts.”

Dr. Conway received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory, and also holds degrees in accounting and business management. He is an orchestral pianist for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and has performed as a soloist with several orchestras and some of the most well known conductors of our time. Dr. Conway has served as an associate conductor and principal accompanist for the Morgan State University Choir for the past 20 years. He was named interim director of the choir in July of 2004.

“I am truly honored to have been chosen to lead this department at Morgan and this great choir,” said Dr. Conway. “It is both a privilege and a unique challenge to have the opportunity to build on the legacy of a man I have long-admired, the late Nathan Carter.”

The Morgan State University Choir has performed nationally and internationally, in such places as Prague, the Czech Republic, London, Paris, the White House, and most recently, St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2004, they were named “America’s Best College Choir” by Reader’s Digest magazine.
