Morgan State University Showcases City Landmark – The Ivy Mill
Former Baltimore County Historian Presents Research on Historic Mill

Morgan State University’s Community and Economic Development Department and the Graduate Program in Museum Studies and Historic Preservation (MSHP) host A Look at the Ivy Mill on Monday, April 13, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the University Student Center Theater. Former Baltimore County Historian, John McGrain, will present the results of his research, along with findings from MSU’s Graduate Program in MSHP, about this historic landmark on Morgan’s campus.

The mill was in operation during the early 19th century. In 1917, Morgan College (now Morgan State University) purchased the Ivy Mill property. The presentation traces the history of the mill, including its use as a county school for African American youth, and finally, plans by the university to renovate and re-use the building as a new welcome center for the community. The event is free and open to the public.
