Morgan's President Receives NAFEO Leadership Award

Morgan State University President Earl S. Richardson is the recipient of this year's Presidential Leadership Award from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO).

"This award memorializes your ongoing contributions to strengthening and expanding educational opportunities for African-Americans throughout the United States," according to NAFEO's President and CEO, Frederick S. Humphries. "We are proud of the tenacity and patience you have displayed in the educational arena by insisting on standards of excellence for our institutions during the difficult years," he added.

"To be recognized for my work on behalf of young people who are striving to better themselves, their families and their communities throughout this country is extremely gratifying," said Dr. Richardson. "And I am especially honored to receive this award from the nation's premier voice for Black higher education." Richardson, who will receive the Presidential Leadership Award at a special NAFEO awards banquet on Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC, is entering his 20 th year as president of Morgan State University.

In addition to Dr. Richardson, two other HBCU presidents will also be recognized for their work in higher education during the NAFEO banquet - Dr. William Harvey of Hampton University in Virginia and Dr. Jimmy Jenkins of Edward-Waters College in Florida.
