MORGAN'S DEAN OF ENGINEERING TO RECEIVE "PIONEER AWARD"

Award Will Be Presented at the 2003 Black Engineer of the Year Awards Ceremony

Morgan State University President Earl S. Richardson is pleased to announce that Eugene M. DeLoatch, Ph.D, dean of the School of Engineering and president of the American Society for Engineering Education, has been named the recipient of the 2003 "Pioneer Award." The award will be presented at the 17th Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 15, 8:00 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center. The ceremony is hosted by U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine, the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the Lockheed Martin Corporation.

"Dr. DeLoatch is an outstanding member of our faculty and a shining example of leadership in the engineering community. We are proud that his achievements will be recognized by way of this prestigious award," said Dr. Richardson.

The Black Engineer of the Year Awards and Conference is held each year to honor modern-day black inventors, technical innovators, gifted scientists, budding engineers and high-level managers with successful careers in private industry, academia, government agencies and the military. The three-day conference, held February 13-15 at the Baltimore Convention Center, is a national event that brings together students, college administrators, recruiters, engineering and IT professionals, and high-level decision-makers from the corporate, government and military communities. The event seeks to broaden diversity in the country's technical and scientific workforce.
