MORGAN ARMY ROTC PROGRAM CITED AS AMONG BEST

The Morgan State University Army ROTC unit is today being called one of the best in the country, having achieved the designation as being among the top 15 percent of Cadet Command's 270 units nationally. Overall, it means the University's ROTC program is being ranked number 3 when compared with similar programs across the nation.

In a letter to Morgan President Earl S. Richardson making the official announcement, Major General John T. D. Casey, Commander of the United States Army Cadet Command at Fort Monroe, Virginia, called the designation an accomplishment that "demonstrates excellence in the overall Army ROTC program and the hard work and competence of Morgan State University cadets."

Major General Casey complimented the administration, faculty and staff at Morgan State University for its support of the students and the Army ROTC unit at the university. "I appreciate this support and look forward to many more years of our partnership in developing leaders for our Army and our nation," he said.

Morgan's Army ROTC unit was started in 1950 and is currently 190 students strong. The designation, says Lieutenant Colonel Donald Harrison, professor of Military Science, "is validation of the strength of our program at the university. Morgan has a legacy as one of the nation's top producers of military leaders and we are working hard to ensure that tradition continues."

Morgan State University, founded in 1867, is a coeducational institution offering more than 60 academic programs leading to bachelor's degrees as well as programs at the master's and doctoral levels. As Maryland's public urban university, Morgan serves a multi-ethnic and multi-racial student body and seeks to ensure that the doors of higher education are opened as wide as possible to as many as possible.
