Clint Coleman MORGAN CELEBRATES VISIT OF FREEDOM SCHOONER AMISTADMorgan State University welcomes the Freedom Schooner Amistad to Baltimore on her maiden voyage. The ship will be docked at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, October 5 through October 18, 2001, and Morgan celebrates this historic visit with a series of events in the Turpin-Lamb Theatre, located on campus in the New Carl Murphy Fine Arts Center, Sunday, October 7th at 2:00 PM. The Amistad, launched in July, 2000, is a replica of the schooner that became a symbol of the struggle for freedom after the 1839 slave uprising, the only known incident of its kind aboard a ship during America's slave trade. Morgan is proud to commemorate the ship's visit with lectures on the slave trade and the life of Frederick Douglass, performances by the Morgan State University Dance Ensemble and the Morgan State University Choir. All of the events take place in the New Carl Murphy Fine Arts Center on the campus of Morgan State University, beginning at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 7, 2001, and concluding with a reception at 4:30 PM. Tickets to
the event are free but seating is limited.
